Something Just Ain't Right 3 Page 14
“Morgan, you’re killing him!” Hayley exclaimed.
But I didn’t care. He was the part of the reason my life was going to shit, so he could go to hell just like Craig, Travis, and his crazy wife.
He was about to become unconscious when I felt cold steel pressed against my temple. I closed my eyes and sighed.
“Let go of him and get up!”
I slowly let my hands go from Rick and got up from the floor. I stared ahead, wondering what was going to happen.
“If I have to, I will kill you.”
I turned around to stare at my mother.
“Then pull the trigger.”
Tears were coming down her cheeks as she pointed the gun at me.
“I really do love you, Morgan and I’m sorry for everything I have done. I raised you to be a real man and I’m proud of you.”
I looked at her, wondering if she was being sincere. It was hard to think she was if she was still pointing that gun at me.
“But I have to do this.” She said as she aimed it to my chest. Before she could pull the trigger, Hayley bumped her, forcing her to knock the gun to the floor.
“Oh God!” Zoe yelled as Hayley and Sophia were on the floor. I was about to go after the gun, but somehow Rick found some strength. He tripped me, making me fall hard on the floor. He turned me over and double-punched me. I kicked him off of me, sending him down on the floor. I went over to the gun that was near Zoe, when Rick pulled the back of my shirt. As we were struggling, I suddenly heard a loud pop. Before I knew it, Rick had fell to his side on the floor. I turned around and saw Kyle standing behind me with his gun pointed at Rick.
I gave him a nod and went over to Hayley and Sophia who were still fighting on the ground. Little did I know, Demetria was standing nearby. She pushed Sophia off of Hayley and pointed a gun at her.
“What are you doing? You suppose to work for me?!” Sophia yelled.
“Not anymore.” Demetria said.
I grabbed my mom and held her arms which made her scream.
“I would let her shoot you, but killing you is too good. You deserve to rot in prison.” I said.
I moved her over to the couch and used the ropes she had for Zoe to tie her up.
“Morgan, please don’t do this.”
I stared at her and sighed. I couldn’t look at her any longer as I turned around and went over to Hayley.
“Are you okay?”
She nodded as she put her arms around me. I held her, knowing that this was finally over.
“I think we all need to leave, now.” Kyle said.
I let go of Hayley and saw the small fire coming from the patio. It looked as if it was trying to spread from inside.
“Shit!” I exclaimed.
Hayley grabbed Zoe as we all headed to the door. I didn’t realize that my mom was actually serious about the house being on fire.
“Morgan! Morgan! You can’t leave me in here.” My mom exclaimed.
I looked at her. I knew I should help her, but I couldn’t do it.
“After everything you’d done, do you really think I would? You and Rick can go to hell.”
The fire began to spread inside, which was my cue to leave. Zoe was already safe outside, just in case my mom was serious about dousing her with lighter fluid. I ran outside and went straight to everyone as they were near the other end of the street. We watched as the fire was furiously spreading, which gave me chills. A part of me couldn’t believe my childhood home was on fire, but honestly, I shouldn’t feel remorseful about it. That home had caused a lot of painful memories that I hope I could soon erase. From Craig’s supposedly murder, to the incident that just occurred, that house was a bad omen and it needed to be buried like all of the memories that I needed to erase from my life.
As for my mom, even though she did all of that to me, she was still my mother and I loved her. We had been through a lot together and it pained me to know that she would hurt me like that.
A feeling of guilt went through me. Because of her misdeeds, leaving her in that house was probably the right thing to do, but I couldn’t do it. I had to save her.
I looked at Hayley as she gave me a sad look. “Don’t, Morgan.”
“I have to. She’s my mom.”
“But…”
“No buts; I have to save her.”
She slowly nodded and I kissed her.
“Just remember that I love you, okay.”
She nodded with tears in her eyes. “I love you too.”
A dark cloud was over the house as I ran to it. Luckily we left the door open as I went inside. The house was filled with smoke when I quickly grabbed Rick. I pulled my mom from the couch and I struggled to get us out of the house. Before I could get to the door, some molding was rapidly coming down on us. I went to the side as it fell down on the ground.
“Shit.” I said before going to the door. I was able to get outside when I saw the fire trucks coming down the street.
“Oh my God! Morgan!” Hayley yelled as she ran over to me.
I started coughing as she took my mom from me and Kyle grabbed Rick. The two handed them over to Houston Police, which I didn’t even know was nearby.
“Where’s Shantel?” Hayley asked.
I shrugged. I’m sure someone would find her in the house. I couldn’t save everyone.
“What are you doing? Why are you arresting us?” my mom asked while one of the cops put handcuffs on her.
“Sophia McFarlane, you’re under arrest for kidnapping and attempted murder.” The officer said as he began reading her rights.
I turned and saw an officer also reading Rick his rights. I’m not sure what he was charged with, but I have an idea kidnapping was a part of it.
Demetria came over to me with an unsure look. “Morgan, I’m really sorry for everything. I shouldn’t had even been a part of this stupid plan to begin with. I really wasn’t trying to harm anyone, but your mom wanted me to…”
“It’s okay, Demetria. Yes, you shouldn’t had been a part of my mom’s scheme, but you did the right thing by turning her over to the police.”
“How did you…”
“I kind of figured; you besides Leslie were the only two who knew about her plan.”
Demetria nodded and went to Hayley.
“And trust me, your secret is safe with me.”
Hayley nodded. “Thank you.”
“No problem.”
She turned to Kyle and he took her hand. “As for you two, I think you need to go to the hospital.”
“I’m fine.” Hayley said.
“You need to be checked out, especially you, Morgan.”
“I’m cool.” I said before I started coughing again.
“I’ll get a medic.” Kyle said and went to the ambulance.
I looked ahead and saw a fireman coming out with a body. I already knew who it was. I hope she was alive so she could be punished like the rest of her crew.
Once Kyle got an available medic, he checked me out and informed me I should go to the hospital as well. Kyle smirked as I went with him to the ambulance. I looked back at the house again, glad that all the memories were going up in flames like the house. Now, I can finally live my life again.

Upon arriving to the hospital and was checked out by an ER doctor, I was going to stay overnight for smoke inhalation. I was in a room watching TV when Hayley, Kyle, Lamar, and Tamara walked in. I smiled at everyone beside me.
“Hey. How are you feeling?” Hayley asked while giving me a kiss.
“I’m great. Just need to rest, that’s all. What about you?”
“I’m fine. The doctor just released me. Unlike you, nothing major.”
“What about your mom? How is she?”
“She’s fine. She did have a couple of lacerations, but she’s going to be okay. Her doctor wanted to keep her overnight as well.”
“And your dad?”
“Just a bump on the head. I brought him in earlier. He doesn’t have a concussion, so he
s at home now,” Lamar said.
“When he heard what happened, he tried to come, but of course, Lamar wouldn’t let him.” Tamara said.
“I had to call Uncle Martin to watch over him. That’s also who Ophelia is with right now.” Lamar added.
“What about Shantel? Hayley noticed her being carried out of the house.” Tamara said.
“Maybe her misdeed has finally caught up with her.” I said.
“Wow, this has been a crazy night.” Kyle said.
“You’re telling me.”
“So Hayley told me that we’re not brothers.”
I nodded. “Yeah, turned out my uncle Rick is actually my dad.”
“That’s fucked up, Mo.” Lamar said.
“Yeah; everyone that was in my life were living a lie. Now, everyone is locked up where they belong.”
“Think about this; yes, everyone lied, but one good thing did come out of this.”
“What’s that?”
“We’re still related. We’re cousins. Even though we both went through a lot of shit before, just know that I have your back, no matter what.”
I nodded. “Thanks, man.”
“No problem.”
“And Demetria?”
Kyle shrugged. “I don’t know. It still hurts that she was a part of Sophia’s scheme, but she did come through at the end. She and Leslie were the ones who turned her and Rick in to the police.”
“Will she be punished too since she was involved?” Hayley asked.
“She never said she was. I hardly doubt if anyone will say anything considering all of the added issues they have from Craig’s murder to kidnapping Zoe.”
“Craig’s murder?”
“Oh, I guess you wouldn’t know. Rick confessed to killing Craig.”
I gave a curious look. “Wait. What?”
“When Demetria and I went to the police station, he was there talking to the cops before they booked him. He confessed right there that he was the one who killed Craig. As it turned out, everything that he done was because of his love for your mother.”
“What the hell.” I whispered. To think that Rick, a police detective, would stoop so low because he was in love with my mother. The things some people will do.
“That’s not all. As it turns out, your mom really did kill Kimbella. She knew about your sessions through one of her assistants. I guess she knew her through an old associate. Anyway, Kimbella was learning too much about what was happening, so she waited that morning when she was going into work and killed her.”
“How did you know all of this?”
“She also confessed at the station.”
I shook my head. An innocent woman was killed because of my mom’s foolishness. I really hate that she was caught up in my mess.
“I can see, your mother destroyed a lot of lives.” Tamara said.
“Yes, she did. Have you talked to Dad about his involvement with Sophia?” Hayley asked Lamar.
“A little. He said it was during a time when him and Mom had problems and needed an escape. He never thought he would see her again nor did he imagine she would be staying nearby. As for Mom knowing about what happened, she already knew that Sophia was the woman, even before this happened today.”
“Wow.” Hayley said.
“Now, I can understand why the two got a divorce.”
“I can too, but it still doesn’t explain why Mom kept going back to him.” Hayley said.
“That’s something only Mom knows. Regardless of what happened, they’re still our parents and we should respect their decision.”
“Well said.” I declared.
“We know visiting hours are about to end, so we’ll give you two some time alone.” Tamara said.
I nodded as the three left the room. Hayley sat down beside me and smiled.
“I think our drama filled adventure has come to a close.”
I smiled. “And I couldn’t had been happier. That shit was starting to drain my ass.”
She laughed. “You’re so right.”
I caressed her hand and she stared at me. “So the doctor didn’t say anything was wrong?”
“No; everything is fine. As for you, I’m just glad that you’re okay.”
“Of course. Why wouldn’t I be?”
“I don’t know; you went into a burning house to save two people that you despised. You could had been killed.”
“I know, but I had to do it. Regardless to what they had done, they were still my parents. I didn’t want to see them die, but I do want them to be punished for their actions.”
“Which they are definitely receiving at this moment.”
“They are. Now, we can finally say that all of the shit we have been through is over.”
“Let’s hope.” Hayley said.
I smiled. “I think this time, it is.”
Hayley lay beside me and kissed my cheek. “What will we do with the free time we have? I mean, we don’t have to hide from maniacs and secret lovers anymore.”
“Let’s not forget psychopathic killers.”
Hayley smiled. “But all joking aside, we are finally free to live the life that we want together.”
“Definitely. And Demetria is positive about not turning you in.”
Hayley nodded. “She’s positive. She told Kyle that she and her father were never really close, so she was right when she said she was only doing it for the money. Besides, she saved our lives, so we should feel a little grateful to her.”
“I am, but I just don’t want anything else to come back to haunt us.”
“I think she wants to put this behind her like everyone else. Now, I just want to focus on us and our future.”
Hayley gave a slight nuzzle against my ear. “And what a wonderful future it will be.”
“I love you, baby.”
“I love you.”
She leaned into me and gave me a kiss.
When I was little, I thought I had the perfect life, but never seen the issues that were surrounding me. When things got tough, I relied on my second family to get me through it, never realizing that they were the ones who would have my back. Now, through the love of my life and great friends, I can see that I have so much more to live for and that the same group of people who has helped me throughout the years are the ones I will always be grateful for.
Hayley
Two Months Later
“Will you hurry up? We are on a time schedule.”
I glanced at Lamar and rolled my eyes. I don’t even know why he was in here bothering me. He should be with Morgan seeing if he was okay.
“I know we’re on a schedule. Shouldn’t you be doing something else, like I don’t know, seeing if Morgan is okay?”
“I will, but I did want to check on my sister.”
I smiled. “I appreciate it, Lamar.”
He smiled and gave me a hug.
“I can’t believe this is happening. Who would had thought a few months ago that you and Morgan would be here?”
“I knew, you just couldn’t see it.”
“Maybe not, but I’m glad I can now. He’s a great guy and I’m glad you two are together.”
I was trying not to cry since I didn’t want to mess up my make-up. I spent almost two hours doing it, so I couldn’t ruin it.
As if reading my mind, Tamara got up and gently pushed Lamar to the tent entrance. “Okay, it’s time to go. You’re going to ruin her make-up.” She said.
“Fine. See you out there, sis.”
I smiled again and he left.
“So, how do you feel?” My mom asked while holding Ophelia.
It seem surreal that two months ago that both of their lives were in danger. A shiver went through me as I thought about what my mom went through. After that incident, my mom and dad has stopped their “relationship” and only associated because of Ophelia. For my mom, she loved my dad so much, that’s why she let go of the issues she had with him; but with the recent incidents, it brought up old wounds that she didn
t want to relive. The two did recently patch up their relationship when my dad proposed to my mom for a second time. She accepted and the two are planning a fall wedding.
I’m not sure how I feel about the two getting remarried. Even though they practically had a relationship for years, with all of the damage my dad has done, I would had thought my mom would had walked away, but I guess she loves him too much to do so. I just hope the two are happy and will have a successful marriage the second time around.
I took Ophelia from my mom and smiled. “I feel great. This is a happy moment and I’m really happy that you all are a part of it.”
“We’re happy to be here too. You and Morgan deserve this so much.”
I kissed Ophelia and handed her back to my mom. I smoothed down my dress and looked in the full length mirror. After what happened with Sophia and Rick, Morgan proposed to me right in his hospital room. Even though I would had preferred a more romantic proposal, just him saying it to me was all I needed to hear. The two of us didn’t want a big ceremony, but I did want to get married outdoors, so we chose the perfect spot to have our wedding. I also wanted to have it before I start my last semester at Thompson, which would be approaching in a few months. Morgan decided to go back as well in the fall to finish his last semester.
I looked at my reflection, thinking about the night Morgan and I finally gave into our feelings for each other. We didn’t know what to expect afterwards because of Lamar, but we both knew we wanted to see where our relationship would go. Now, I can’t wait to be his wife.
As for his parents, the two are in prison along with Travis, Caroline, Will, and even Shantel. Sophia and Rick are prepared to go to trial soon for their involvement in Craig’s and Kimbella’s murders. Sophia tried to call Morgan to see if he would come and support her, but of course Morgan declined. He doesn’t want anything to do with anyone associated with his family, except for Kyle. I have to admit, his relationship with Kyle has done a complete 180. Now, those two are closer than ever. Even though the two are not brothers, they are cousins, which were good enough for the both of them.
As for Kyle’s mom, she was shocked to know that Rick was Morgan’s dad. She had no knowledge that him and Sophia ever slept together nor has Peter ever told her. I guess he wanted to keep some things hidden. She has even reached out to Morgan after everything has happened. Now, the two meet up once a month to share memories of the only father that Morgan has even known.
